Food versus fuel debate is ‘entirely baseless’, says ethanol association

The dust has settled after the European Commission (EC) laid out a preliminary plan for a 30% reduction in emissions from EU member states by 2030 compared to 2005 levels. Companies and organisations have voiced their support, and some shown concern, regarding the proposed measures for GHG reduction that were outlined in a recent EC report.

One of the methods that the EC presented was the promotion of advanced renewable biofuels in place of conventional biofuels, which would be phased out. While some experts believe that this could be a positive move, others think that the EC should be focused on reducing the continent’s reliance on oil rather than any form of biofuel.
