The accuracy of drive-cycle tests has been questioned for some time, and the New European Drive Cycle (NEDC) procedure has recently come under tough scrutiny. Industry experts have suggested that OEMs have a tendency to optimise drive-cycle tests, allowing them to obtain efficiency and emissions recordings that do not truthfully represent real-world performance levels. Consequently, the use of Portable Emissions Measurement Systems (PEMS) may well see a sharp rise during 2015.
