COMMENT: Gelber Engel scandal challenges award legitimacy

The Volkswagen Golf is Germany’s favourite car. That was the verdict of the ADAC, Germany’s - and Europe’s - largest automobile club. Every year, readers of Motorwelt, the club’s magazine, are invited to vote for their favourite car, and in mid-January the 2014 ‘Gelber Engel’ prize was awarded to the Volkswagen Golf.
