The US Department of Energy's (DOE) Advanced Technology Vehicles Manufacturing (ATVM) loan programme still has more than US$16m to offer, and the government is hoping to attract new applicants by highlighting some of its successes so far.
The programme, launched in 2008 with US$25bn in funding, is geared at stimulating investment by automotive manufacturers into cleaner vehicles. The first loan closed in 2009, and since then the programme has provided more than US$8bn to projects that have resulted in more than 4 million fuel-efficient vehicles, set up new production facilities and added or secured thousands of direct and indirect jobs.
