The automotive industry is increasingly handing over control of the in-car experience to the companies at the forefront of the mobile computing revolution. On the surface, Apple CarPlay and Google’s Open Automotive Alliance Platforms provide drivers with a simple extension of their mobile lifestyle - an easy way to access information, entertainment and navigation insights. However, Apple and Google’s approach is also increasing the cost and complexity of delivering navigation and infotainment in the connected car.
