Volkswagen celebrated the production of 10 million cars and 11 million engines in México. The 10th million car was a GSR Beetle that came out of the production lines of the Puebla plant around 9:30 A.M., local time.

The commemoration was framed by the display of an installation that symbolizes the history, tradition and evolution of Volkswagen in Mexico, a monument that celebrates the DNA of the brand, where the three generations of the famous Beetle, that has marked the history of Volkswagen de Mexico, rise above on an elliptical structure.

The monument was shown off by the Governor of Puebla, Rafael Moreno Valle, accompanied by Dr. Hubert Waltl, Member of the Board of Management of the Volkswagen Passenger Cars Brand with responsibility for Production and Logistics, and Mr. Andreas Hinrichs, President of the Board of Management of Volkswagen de Mexico.

During the ceremony, Dr. Waltl said: “The Puebla plant is the second largest in the Volkswagen world and in 2012 production hit a 600 thousand vehicles record. With the 10th million car that Volkswagen de Mexico celebrates today, the company is reaching a further milestone in its history. On the horizon of its first 50 years in Mexico, Volkswagen is projected forward as a solid reference company in production technological innovation and sustainable processes. We continue having a great confidence in the region and in our successful team in Mexico”, Dr. Waltl added.

Volkswagen production began in Mexico in 1964, in Xalostoc, Mexico State. At its Puebla plant the first Beetle was produced in 1967. Today Volkswagen de Mexico produces 4 models: Classic Jetta (A4), Golf Variant, The Beetle and New Jetta (A6). In 2014 the Golf VII will be produced also in Puebla.

The Puebla plant also produces the engines R5 2.5 L & R4 2.0L for the models that are assembled there and to be exported to the Volkswagen Group plants. In Silao Volkswagen produces, since the beginning of this year, EA888 engines, with two configurations, 2.0 L TSI & 1.8 L TSI.
