Top-level event in Munich on 23 and 24 January 2013
The “Automotive Logistics Forum” organised by the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA) and the German Logistics Association (BVL) will be held in Munich on 23 and 24 January 2013 with the slogan “Mastering Complexity.” The venue is the MAN Truck Forum, Dachauer Strasse 570, 80995 Munich. The main speakers will be VDA President Matthias Wissmann, BVL Chairman Prof. Raimund Klinkner, and Dr Carsten Intra, Member of the Management Board at MAN Truck & Bus AG.
The congress will focus on the most important topics in logistics for vehicle production. A wide range of brands and a growing number of manufacturers’ derivatives continually increase the work of supply chain management and logistics. Value-added chains are becoming longer. Production networks spanning the globe create a hitherto unseen degree of complexity stretching across continents. In Munich the leading logistics experts from the German automotive industry will discuss possible responses, measures and methods for tackling these urgent challenges.
The first day’s programme will focus on cloud computing, the aftermarket, standardisation of packaging, the digital factory, multimodal transport, and auto ID and RFID (automatic radio-frequency identification of production parts). The second day of the congress will offer lectures on complexity and volatility, and on challenges faced in supplying raw materials, along with a panel discussion considering how sustainability impacts on complexity. In the afternoon there will be two parallel sessions devoted to cost reduction and shifts in the sales markets.
In addition to the lectures and discussions, fascinating guided tours will be available. MAN will open the doors of its truck plant in Munich to the congress attendees, who will be able to follow the complex assembly all the way to the complete truck. They will also have an opportunity to visit the MAN Parts Distribution Center, a central warehouse holding 27,000 articles, where three million items are picked every year.
A special highlight will be the VDA Logistics Award at the “Evening of Communication” on 23 January 2013. The winning concept will then be presented by the prize winners. The evening event is included in the congress package for all participants.
The VDA and the BVL are organising the Automotive Logistics Forum jointly for the first time. This new event continues the eleven-year-old tradition of the VDA’s Logistics Congress. Until now the BVL has organised the annual Industry Forum Automotive Logistics. The German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA) unites over 600 automotive companies in Germany. The German Logistics Association (BVL) is a public-benefit, neutral and largely honorary network. It provides a platform for logistics and supply chain managers in industry, commerce and services, and for scientists and students, forming a bridge between business and science.
