Low gas prices and continued consumer interest in utilities spur favorable savings on sedans

TrueCar, Inc. (NASDAQ: TRUE), the negotiation-free car buying and selling mobile marketplace, finds the Ford Fusion sedan tops February’s list of best savings on new vehicles, currently selling at an average of 14 percent off the Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP).

The “TrueSavings” monthly report analyzes recent transaction prices and identifies opportunities for consumers. Along with Fusion, TrueCar finds Hyundai’s Elantra compact sedan and FCA’s Chrysler 300C large sedan also are selling at least 10 percent below MSRP this month. Currently, eight of the 10 most-in-demand vehicles on TrueCar’s platform are light trucks.

“TrueCar’s data illustrates a change in consumer preference, with transaction prices reflecting generous savings for savvy consumers interested in compact, midsize and large cars this month,” said John Krafcik, president of TrueCar. “This observed shift, improved fuel economy on utility vehicles and low gasoline prices drove consumers away from more traditional sedans.”

The year’s first holiday weekend auto sales promotion is under way, tied to the February 16 Presidents Day observance that closes financial markets, government offices and public schools.
