Scania hosts a round table discussion with Honourable Minister Gadkari, CEO Niti Aayog Mr Amitabh Kant, and senior level representatives from Ministry of Heavy Industry and Enterprise, Ministry of Urban Development and Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.

On February 5th, 2018, at 5.00 pm, Scania India will host a roundtable discussion with decision makers across government, industry and civil society, that has the potential of creating the right framework and incentives for a sustainable public mobility solution. Such a solution will help cities address the dual challenges of urban mobility and increasing pollution. Scania aims to harness an actionable agenda through this discussion.

Senior Vice President, Scania AB, Erik Ljungberg and President Scania India Stefan Palskog will host the event.

The discussion is likely to highlight the benefits of renewable fuel-based transport in India. These include: improved air quality, job creation, energy security, reduced import of oil and coal, waste elimination, and reduced CO2 emissions. Scania, a global pioneer in providing renewable fuel based transport solutions, has piloted a renewable fuel fleet in Nagpur with 55 ethanol-fueled buses – a first of its kind. The project, which is in the delivery phase, showcases the immense potential of bio – fuel powered sustainable transport that can help in the conversion of local waste to local fuel and local transport.

The GST Council’s decision in January 2018 to lower the tax rate on biofuels for public buses, and the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas’ proposed Biofuel Policy are very positive developments that will help bring parity for alternative sustainable transport solutions with EVs. There is a need to develop a policy framework, which includes fiscal incentives, that will facilitate the large scale adaptation of bio – fuels across India. The scheme can be similar in structure to the one provided to electric mobility. This can, however, only be achieved through a multi-stakeholder approach, which is the focus of this conference.
