Grupo Antolin looks for innovative designs for the car interior of the future

The competition challenges students from universities and design schools around the world to imagine the vehicle interior

Grupo Antolin, one of the largest manufacturers of vehicle interiors in the world, has launched the second edition of the Design Challenge. The aim of this competition is for students from universities and design schools around the world to imagine what vehicle interiors will look like in the future.

Applicants have until June 2020 to present their innovative designs that need integrate technology that will be incorporated by future vehicles, as well as solutions for ambient and functional lighting, smart decorative surfaces and new materials. In addition, their designs should take into account aspects such as passenger comfort, cost, weight, safety standards and market trends.

Award-winning projects must be designed to add value to the interior of electric, self-driving connected cars in the year 2025.

To take advantage of the mobility of the future, Grupo Antolin’s strategy is focused on developing integrated products, which include technology and electronics, offering further functions and lighting solutions. The technological revolution that vehicles are going through will completely change the nature and the function of their interiors making them complementary to the home and work and adapted to the needs of the passengers.

The competition is divided into three categories (Smart Headliner, Smart Door Panel and Smart Cockpit). The winners of which will receive a prize of €3,000. There will also be a special mention prize in Color&Trim where the winner will receive prize money of €1,000. Participants can submit their proposals to one or several categories.

In addition to the cash prizes, the awards will open up doors and give the winning students the chance to get to know one of the most innovative industries in the world and one that offers many professional opportunities in the context of the mobility of the future.

First edition

The first edition of the Design Challenge, which was launched in 2017, was hugely successful and attracted a large number of participants. The awards went to four students from prestigious design schools and universities in the United States, France, United Kingdom and Spain.

This competition forms part of Grupo Antolin’s commitment to talent and innovation, which includes various initiatives and programs linked to professional development and innovation in the manufacture of car interiors.
