General Motors and Qualcomm extend long-standing relationship to transform next generation vehicles

Companies’ broad technology relationship brings a full suite of automotive solutions to GM’s next-generation digital cockpit and telematics systems and advanced driver assistance systems

Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. and General Motors (GM) today announced their continued relationship to deliver premium experiences to upcoming vehicles.  Building on the companies’ long-standing relationship spanning across multiple cellular technology generations, the companies will use their expertise to feature highly advanced technologies needed for next generation vehicles. Through this relationship, Qualcomm Technologies is working with GM to power digital cockpits, next generation telematics systems and future advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), to meet the evolving needs of providing best-in-class experiences for consumers.

For its next-generation vehicles, GM is redefining the in-vehicle experience, using the power of the 3rd generation Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ Automotive Cockpit Platforms. The high performance digital cockpit systems will provide new, rich, and immersive in-vehicle experiences as well as highly intuitive artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled experiences for in-car virtual assistance, natural interactions between the vehicle and driver, and contextual safety use cases.

For many years, Qualcomm Technologies has worked with GM to supply advanced communication solutions for GM’s connected car applications, including safety and diagnostics featured in GM’s connected Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac vehicles. As an extension of the relationship, GM worked with Qualcomm Technologies for C-V2X, which has launched with the Buick GL8 MPV now available in China.

“Qualcomm Technologies and General Motors have a strong track record of delivering innovative solutions to our customers,” said Dan Nicholson, GM Vice President Global Electrification, Controls, Software and Electronics. “Bolstering our relationship is key to leading the industry through a time of unprecedented growth in vehicle and infrastructure technology.”

“GM is a leading technology pioneer in the automotive industry. We are thrilled to be at the heart GM’s automotive fleet as the industry embarks on the next generation of mobility with highly advanced digital cockpit, telematics and ADAS,” said Nakul Duggal, senior vice president & general manager, automotive, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. “We look forward in continuing our work with GM to define the future of intelligent and connected vehicles.”
