The ŠKODA Yeti and second-generation Superb are continuing to bring home the silverware – proving that great new ŠKODAs make fantastic used ones. The multi-award-winning models have just been named as winners once again in the annual Diesel Car Used Car Top 50 awards – taking the Best Used Compact SUV and Best Used Estate titles.
The Diesel Car Used Car Top 50 focussed on cars more than three years old, and took into account value, economy, running costs and practicality. The Yeti (2009 – 2017) was ranked at number 4 in the overall chart and was the highest placed compact SUV in the entire list.
Commenting on its remarkable performance, Diesel Car Editor and Publisher Ian Robertson said: “The Yeti impressed reviewers and owners in equal measure, thanks to its practical boxy shape, quirky design and surprising chassis. We say surprising, because the Yeti is far more fun to drive than you’d expect an SUV from a sensible car maker to be, sometimes feeling more like a warmed over hatch than a practical family car. The optional DSG automatic is desirable, as are attractive and well-equipped Monte Carlo versions. Reliability appears to be sound thus far, and safety is guaranteed by a five-star Euro NCAP score.”
The Yeti’s latest award adds to an impressive list of industry accolades that characterised the SUV’s eight-year production run. It has won 26 major media awards, making it one the most decorated cars in ŠKODA’s history.
Accompanying the Yeti on the Diesel Car success trail, the second-generation Superb (produced between 2009 – 2015) also proved irresistible to the judging panel. It was named Best Estate car – seeing off a range of premium models in the process.
Explaining the decision to make the Superb another winner, Ian Robertson said: “If your backseat passengers are just as important as those in the front, the Superb will provide them with first-class travel. When new it was an incredible amount of car for the money, and as a used buy it’s even better. The Twindoor feature allows the boot to open like a hatchback or saloon, with the Estate version commanding a premium on account of its huge 1,865 litres boot.”
