Fiat Group May sales in Italy exceeded 41,000 vehicles

Fiat Group Automobiles posted May sales in Italy of more than 41,000 vehicles, with market share at 30.2%. Year-to-date sales totaled 180,000 vehicles with market share at 29.5% (+0.2 p.p.).

For Fiat brand, share was up 0.1 p.p. for the month and 1.6 p.p. for the year-to-date. May sales were negatively impacted by an interruption in components supply, which resulted in nearly 3,000 fewer vehicles being delivered.

The Group continued to lead the market, with 5 Group models – Panda, Punto, 500, Ypsilon and 500L – topping the May sales rankings. The Italian auto market registered another month of decline with total sales for May down 8% over the same month in 2012 to 136,000 vehicles.

Year-to-date, sales were down 11.3% to less than 609,000 vehicles. Fiat Group Automobiles posted May sales of more than 41,000 vehicles, representing a 30.2% share of the Italian market. Year-to-date, sales totaled nearly 180,000 vehicles with share up 0.2 p.p. over the first five months of 2012 to 29.5%.

Sales volumes for Fiat Group Automobiles were negatively impacted by an interruption in the supply of components for certain models, with the result that some 3,000 vehicles could not be delivered to customers.

The Group continued to dominate the rankings with the 5 best selling models in Italy for the month of May. The Panda retained the top slot once again, followed by the Punto, 500, Ypsilon and 500L. Fiat brand sold nearly 31,000 cars with market share higher than both April this year (+0.2 p.p.) and May 2012 (+0.1 p.p.) at 22.7%.

Year-to-date, sales totaled more than 134,000 vehicles with share up 1.6 p.p. over the first five months of 2012 to 22.05%. An interruption in components supply for the 500 and 500L resulted in the brand being unable to deliver more than 1,500 vehicles.

The Panda, Punto and 500 were the three best selling vehicles in Italy for the month. The Panda was the number one vehicle overall and it dominated the A segment with a 41.2% share. The Punto was the best selling vehicle in the B segment with a 16% segment share. The 500, which was third overall, ranked second in the A segment with a 19.2% share. Together, the Panda and 500 accounted for nearly 61% of all A segment sales for the month. Results were also positive for the 500L (fifth overall), which was once again the best selling mid-size SUV with a 43.8% segment share.

Lancia sold more than 6,000 vehicles in May, accounting for a 4.4% share of the market. Year-to-date, brand sales totaled 27,400 with share at 4.5%. An interruption in components supply for the Ypsilon resulted in the brand being unable to deliver nearly 1,500 vehicles. Despite this, the special edition Ypsilon Elefantino made a significant contribution to Lancia brand sales and the Ypsilon was the fourth best selling car in Italy in May with a 12.5% share of the B segment.

For the brand’s other models, the Voyager held a 19% share of the large MPV segment and the Thema accounted for 15.1% of total sales in its segment.

Alfa Romeo sold more than 3,700 vehicles in May, increasing share 0.2 percentage points over April 2013 to 2.75%. Year-to-date, brand sales totaled more than 15,200 vehicles with market share at 2.5%. The Giulietta continued to achieve strong results and, with the contribution of the LPG Turbo version, was once again the leader in the C segment.

Jeep reported May sales of over 500 vehicles with market share at 0.4%. Year-to-date, sales totaled more than 2,700 vehicles and market share was 0.45%. With the new Grand Cherokee not yet having arrived at dealers (available for order), the brand’s flagship model continued, nevertheless, to lead its segment in May with a share of nearly 10%.
