DuPont introduces new thermal-conductive interface material for HEV/EV battery assembly

BETASEAL™ TC thermal-conductive interface material is a game-changing solution for battery pack assembly

Battery pack safety, durability and sustainability are critical to the mobility needs of today and tomorrow. BETASEAL™ TC thermal-conductive interface material is a game-changing solution for battery pack assembly. Part of the offering comprised of DuPont’s AHEAD™ (Accelerating Hybrid-Electric Autonomous Driving) initiative, BETASEAL™ TC is easy to apply, retains thermal-conductive properties between the battery cells and cooling plate, yet has low pullout force to facilitate ease of battery module removal for repair/reuse/recycling.

“Adhesive solutions are in our DNA. We bring nearly 75 years’ experience to the automotive industry and we are translating that expertise to serve the growing hybrid and electric vehicle market,” said Andreas Lutz, R&D director – adhesives at DuPont Transportation & Advanced Polymers. “BETASEAL™ TC is just one of many component and assembly solutions brought to the industry by DuPont. We look forward to collaborating with our customers to create even more.”

BETASEAL™ TC is a dispensable thermal interface material demonstrating benefits that include:

  • Non-abrasive formulation – no equipment wear
  • Fast dispensing, compression or injection process compatible
  • Fast joining – low press-in force
  • No sagging in vertical aging test
  • Long working time — > 30 minutes
  • No physical change over aging
  • Repairability – low pullout force

BETASEAL™ TC can be robotically applied, leading to production efficiencies through repeatable processes for high-volume assembly environments. It can also be manually applied for smaller volumes or repairs. The material ensures retention of thermal conductivity due to good contact between the battery cells and the cooling plate with no material gaps.
