Localised production has played a key strategic role for many OEMs in the automotive industry as they look to take advantage of cheap local labour and resources while cutting out export costs. Localised R&D is not as common, but a handful of companies regard it as vital, allowing them to adapt products and vehicles to suit specific consumer needs.
