New York City is one of the most complex urban environments in the US, if not the world. Its pavements are bustling with pedestrians while cyclists, scooters, taxis and buses battle it out on the roadways where difficult sight-lines, frequent construction and copious street furniture pose additional complications. Despite these challenges, or perhaps because of them, New York regularly makes it into the top ten lists of innovative cities to watch.
