Turbochargers vital for SUV segment, says SEAT

Michael Nash takes a closer look at the key powertrain technologies used in the Ateca, SEAT’s first SUV

The popularity of the sports utility vehicle (SUV) segment continues to surprise, particularly in Europe. In 2015 SUVs accounted for 22.5% of sales across the continent, surpassing light-duty passenger vehicle sales, according to JATO Dynamics.

To tap into this growing market, SEAT unveiled its first SUV – the new Ateca – at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show. It is slated to go on sale in Germany and Spain before summer 2016, before reaching other markets later on in the year. The Spanish OEM said that the model provides a unique and distinct combination of design, driving dynamics, urban versatility and utility.
