With tightening regulations for truck emissions and fuel efficiency, automotive companies are evaluating a range of technologies to meet this challenge. Synergies between the automotive and motorsport industries are becoming increasingly recognised, and the aerodynamic benefits of drafting – that can be seen across Formula 1 to NASCAR – are now being used for commercial vehicles (CVs).

Meritor Wabco, along with other truck OEMs and suppliers, is working to assess the commercial viability of truck platooning. Automotive World spoke to Steve Hampson, President and General Manager at Meritor Wabco, about the benefits fleets can realise by utilizing platooning technology, and the challenges in the way of bringing it to market.
