With developments in passive safety technology having reached something of a plateau, OEMs and suppliers are seeking other ways to protect drivers, vehicle occupants and road users. At the same time, safety technology developers acknowledge the difficulty in meeting the increasingly demanding requirements of safety ratings organisations like Euro NCAP and the US Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) without the use of active safety technology.
