From furniture to cars: design breaks industry barriers

Megan Lampinen takes a look at why a growing number of vehicle manufacturers are participating in Milan's celebrated furniture design show Salone del Mobile

Milan's Salone del Mobile opens its doors in a few days, and from the 12th to the 17th of April will shine the spotlight on the latest design developments around the world. Designers will be out in force, showing off future trends in colours, materials, themes, etc. Despite the name, this isn't just a furniture fair. Over the years, the automotive industry has been playing a greater role in the event and last year saw participation from the likes of Audi, Lexus, BMW, Mini, Mazda, Peugeot, Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) and others. 2016 will witness another notable showing from some of the leading car manufacturers.
