A recent fatal crash involving a Tesla Model S has put electric propulsion under the safety spotlight once again. Since electric vehicles (EV) started making their way into the market there have been concerns about the potential risk of a battery fire following a crash. A handful of such events have occurred over the years. The most recent one has attracted the attention of both the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
