Effective recycling requires effective segregation, say aluminium suppliers

One year on from the Jaguar XE production start, Pierre Labat of Novelis tells Xavier Boucherat about the benefits and challenges for aluminium recycling loops

JLR put the Jaguar XE into production at its Solihull facility in April 2015. Following sizeable investment, the factory is home to an advanced bodyshop for aluminium-intensive models such as the XE and the Range Rover Sport. The XE makes heavy use of the RC5754 aluminium alloy, which can accept higher percentages of recycled aluminium scrap. Since production started, JLR claims it has recovered over 50,000 tonnes of the material, enough for 200,000 XE body shells.
