Debates surrounding hours of service (HOS) rules have been taking place for years. While commercial vehicle drivers and operators want more freedom to work the hours they want, road safety regulators argue that more time behind the wheel is asking for trouble. According to figures from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, a total of 3,660 people died in large truck crashes in 2014.
