COMMENT: Electric drivetrains will win at both ends of the car market

Electric vehicles (EVs) are off to a modest start, typically grabbing 1% or less of new car sales today, depending on region. As a result, many in the automotive industry view the EV drivetrain as a ‘harmless’ niche, leaving the internal combustion engine (ICE) safe to dominate for decades to come. However, some subtle but crucial ongoing EV technology developments are poised to seriously disrupt both the top and bottom ends of the car market – in remarkably different ways.
