Can truck makers eliminate human error with human-like tech?

Fully autonomous trucks will not take over highways any time soon. Automakers and fleets are considering the challenges and opportunities that automation will present to the trucking industry, and progress has been made on testing Level 4 vehicles and driverless tractors, such as Volvo’s Vera, in controlled situations. Most industry experts agree that Level 5 autonomy is at least a decade away. Though some manufacturers, such as Mitsubishi, hope that fully operational Level 4 trucks will be introduced by 2025, for now the focus is on overcoming the hurdles posed by Level 1-3 automated functions, where the driver still has a part to play.
