Call for greater transparency on safety as Senators reintroduce Whistleblower Act

Encouraging inside players to share information could make a significant impact on safety statistics

New legislation is moving forward in the US that would allow hefty financial payouts for automotive whistleblowers. Under the proposed bipartisan Motor Vehicle Safety Whistleblower Act, employees of vehicle manufacturers, parts suppliers or dealerships that share original information regarding vehicle defects or violations of reporting requirements can receive up to 30% of the financial penalties resulting from a Department of Transport or Department of Justice enforcement action, providing that action totals more than US$1m.
