Biometric authentication, or biometrics, has been used for years as a form of access control in various industries. Biometric identifiers such as fingerprint, face or iris recognition are typically more secure and reliable than traditional forms of identification systems such as alphanumeric passwords or ‘secret’ answers. Generally speaking, biometrics allow access to places or things, and with car usage to become shared and connected in future, biometrics may prove a valuable addition to the human-machine interface (HMI).
