For example, postal services across the world operate vehicles on fixed routes, and those vehicles typically drive the same number of miles on a daily basis. This eliminates factors like range anxiety for electric vehicles (EVs).
Back in 2000, UPS began logging the miles it was covering with its alternative fuel fleet, called the Rolling Laboratory, which consists of EVs, hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs), natural gas vehicles (NGVs) and propane-powered vehicles. The company set a target of reaching 1 billion miles (1.6 billion kilometres) by 2017, a target which it says it is on track to reach.
