Both Audi and Mercedes-Benz have recently announced expansions in their biofuels initiatives. Mercedes-Benz is collaborating with specialty chemical companies Clariant and Haltermann in tests over the next 12 months, with a view to bringing second generation bioethanol into fleet tests on the road. Audi, meanwhile, has signed a collaboration agreement for the development of isooctane with Global Bioenergies, a French company that can manufacture synthetic gasoline from sugar.
