The Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association has released the figures for the shipments of alternative fuel, electrified and other low-emissions vehicles to Japan’s domestic market in fiscal 2011 (ending March 31, 2012).
Shipments of all types of eco-friendly vehicles in fiscal 2011 totalled 4,479,435 units (up 905,330 units, or 25.3%, from fiscal 2010). Over 80% of those shipments comprised vehicles whose fuel efficiency met or surpassed 2010 standards and whose exhaust emissions were down by 75% compared to 2005 standards, thereby qualifying them for a four-star rating signifying “top performance” in Japan’s fuel-efficient/low-emission vehicle classification system.
Unit figures for JAMA member companies’ total ex-factory shipments of eco-friendly vehicles to the domestic market broken down by vehicle type (i.e. passenger cars, trucks, and buses) are posted online at http://www.jama-english.jp/statistics/low_emission/2011/121030.html##.
