In developed markets, the influence of safety advocates such as those who work on the various New Car Assessment Programmes (NCAP) is undeniable. The pursuit of a five-star safety rating from a region's NCAP organisation is part of a wider set of pressures that has transformed automotive safety into a major selling point for consumers by accelerating the adoption of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). That said, outside of markets such as Europe, North America and Japan, the job of pressuring OEMs to ensure basic safety standards as laid down by bodies such as the United Nations continues.
