What does autonomy look like for Daimler Truck and Volvo Group?

Two of the world’s top truckmakers share updates into their autonomous freight roadmaps. By Megan Lampinen

Autonomous driving could revolutionise freight movement and logistics, dramatically improving safety and efficiency. Visions of driverless trucks barrelling down highways 24-7 could indeed become reality, but represent just one possibility for automation. There are also tremendous advances to be made with partial automation like platooning or with applications within confined spaces like mines, quarries, ports and warehouses. Today’s truckmakers are investing in a range of applications, all of which could help the industry realise an increasingly automated future for freight. Self-driving specialist Nvidia recently shared the spotlight with some key truck partners during its annual GTC event, driving home the importance of autonomy for this pivotal sector.
