Mobility gaps loom large in Sydney’s zero emission blueprint

Australia's largest city is frequently pegged as one of the more dynamic cities for mobility, but it has been slow to embrace key megatrends. By Megan Lampinen

Australia is better known for its beaches and wildlife than for air pollution and urban congestion, but there is a serious problem lurking behind the laid-back lifestyle. It is one of the few OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development) countries still lacking greenhouse gas emissions standards for vehicles. According to the 2018 Climate Council report, 'Waiting for the Green Light: Transport Solutions to Climate Change', transport is the country's second largest source of greenhouse gas emissions, following only electricity.
