Europe is electrifying, but ICE will live on for decades – CLEPA

The gasoline engine may have seen a recent uptick in demand, but its long-term place in the market will be application-specific, alongside various other powertrains, CLEPA’s Sigrid de Vries tells Freddie Holmes

Gasoline engines have become the most popular form of powertrain for new cars sold in the European Union, which might suggest that improvements need to be focused on this particular form of combustion engine to ensure that fleet average CO2 emissions remain in check. However, there are calls to ensure that no single powertrain solution is prioritised, and instead, that a holistic approach is necessary.
