European expansion and global acquisitions on the cards for GM’s Cruise

The autonomous drive start-up that GM acquired last year could be on the hunt for new acquisitions of its own as Mary Barra emphasises the need to move 'with speed', writes Megan Lampinen

General Motors' autonomous drive (AD) activities took a big step forward with last year's acquisition of Cruise Automation. At the time, GM hailed the start-up's 'deep software talent and rapid development capability' as the ticket to play in the autonomous race. However, Cruise alone doesn't provide all the necessary capabilities for self-driving vehicles.
