Interview: Dieter Zetsche, Chief Executive, Daimler

Zetsche describes the direction that Mercedes-Benz will take until the end of the decade. By Michael Nash

Many OEMs at the Geneva Motor Show 2016 voiced an optimistic outlook for the European automotive industry over the next five to ten years, referring to strong growth at the beginning of the year as a sign of things to come. Daimler’s Dieter Zetsche was no exception, highlighting January 2016 as a record month for Mercedes-Benz sales. The OEM delivered nearly 20% more vehicles to its customers when compared to the same period in 2015.

Continuous growth is one of the reasons why Zetsche’s contract was extended by three years. He will remain Chairman of the Board of Manager of Daimler and Head of Mercedes-Benz cars until 31 December 2019. Speaking to international journalists at the show, Zetsche outlined his plans over the next four years.
