The incentive to make cars lighter is as old as the car itself. Even before OEMs faced stringent crash, fuel economy and emissions regulations, one of the most obvious ways to improve a car’s handling and performance, and thus sell that car, has always been to shed the pounds. The concept in itself is nothing new.
