Global automotive supplier Visteon Corporation (NYSE: VC), in an advanced demonstration project with Japan Display Inc. (JDI), a global leader in LCD technologies, has set a new benchmark in vehicle display quality and clarity with its latest premium reconfigurable instrument cluster.

Visteon’s third-generation reconfigurable instrument cluster platform and JDI’s high-definition thin film transistor (TFT) display deliver superior graphics and animation. This technology supports complex 3-D graphics and video features such as driver awareness and camera inputs. Visteon’s latest platform allows the 12.3-inch display resolution to deliver 1920 x 720 pixels and an 8:3 aspect ratio – considered unmatched in the automotive market.

This superior display quality and capability are in addition to these standard benefits of a Visteon reconfigurable instrument cluster:

  • Speed to market achieved by Visteon’s human-machine interaction (HMI) tool chain and work flow methodology
  • Unique branding and styling flexibility through simple software modifications
  • Common hardware across platforms and trim levels
  • Fewer mechanical parts

Visteon’s consumer research shows that vehicle owners are becoming accustomed to HD-quality displays in their personal devices and prefer reconfigurable instrument clusters with high-resolution graphics. Consumers say high-quality displays provide them with an added sense of safety because the driver information is clear and can be read quickly and effortlessly.

“Visteon has received excellent input from vehicle manufacturers and we’re excited to provide a technology that they and their customers want,” said Christian Feltgen, Visteon global director of cockpit electronics. “By working with JDI on this project, we are able to deliver what we believe is the highest quality product in the market.”

Visteon will display this technology among others at the Electronica show in Munich, Germany, on Nov. 13-16 in Hall A6, booth 343.
