The risks of driver substitution

Autonomous, self-driving, driverless - however these cars are described, the requirement for the driver to concentrate fully on the road will become less prominent in future as driver assist systems allow the car to control itself. However, there are considerable risks when taking control away from the driver and putting it in the hands of a machine.

A recent study conducted by market research company Visiongain investigated the market for advanced driver assist systems (ADAS) over the next decade. The study's author notes that “in many ways, ADAS are the first step on the road to semi-autonomous or fully-autonomous self-driving and driverless vehicles.”
