Pony.ai boss slams Tesla robotaxi launch: “not ready for L4”

While Pony.AI Co-Founder Lou Tiancheng believes Tesla is yet to prove itself a serious robotaxi player, markets are reacting positively. By Stewart Burnett

In a new interview with Tencent News, Pony.ai co-founder and CTO Lou Tiancheng dismissed Tesla's long-awaited robotaxi launch, claiming that “Tesla hasn't yet taken a seat at the [SAE] L4 poker table”. The former Google self-driving engineer argued that Tesla lacks the driverless operation—given its reliance on teleoperators—and large-scale deployment criteria that define serious SAE Level 4 autonomous driving companies.
