Volkswagen Commercial vehicles improves deliveries in Europe by 8.5% in the first quarter

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles delivered 76,200 light commercial vehicles to customers throughout Europe during the first three months (January – March 2013: 70,200; + 8.5 per cent). With 120,900 vehicles delivered, global figures were almost up to the previous year’s level (previous year: 123,700; -2.3 per cent).

The sales of the brand in Western Europe rose by 8.5 per cent to 66,900 vehicles (previous year: 61,700). With 24,300 vehicles delivered from January to March 2014, Germany was the highest volume European market for Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles (previous year: 23,100; +5.2 per cent). Deliveries in Great Britain increased by 22.9 per cent to 11,500 vehicles (previous year: 9,400). Spain recorded growth of some 37.9 per cent up to 2,100 vehicles (previous year: 1,500) Sales of the brand increased by 8.0 per cent to 9,250 vehicles (previous year: 8,500) in Eastern Europe.

“The customers’ increased demand in particular confirms the T5 model series and the Caddy as popular light commercial vehicles in Europe”, as Bram Schot, Board Member for Sales and Marketing of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, expressed. During the single month of March, the brand achieved almost 13 per cent higher sales than in the previous year, in Germany it enjoyed an increase of almost ten per cent.

The T5 model series global sales increased by 3.1 per cent to 37,500 units from January to March 2014 (previous year: 36,400). The Caddy achieved global growth of 7.4 percent, reaching 34,000 units (31,700; +7.4 per cent). Sales of the Crafter rose by 17.3 per cent to 11,000 deliveries in total (previous year: 9,400). Global deliveries of the Amarok dropped by 3.1 per cent to 19,800 units (previous year: 20,400).

Deliveries dropped in the economically difficult region of South America, – also as a result of phasing-out the T2 in Brazil – by 26.4 per cent to 27,000 vehicles (previous year: 36,700). Sales of the brand increased to 2,700 units in Mexico (previous year: 2,100; +28.1 per cent), in the region of Africa by 11.7 per cent to 5,200 deliveries (previous year: 4,600) and in Pacific Asia by 20.1 per cent to 5,300 deliveries (previous year: 4,400).
