Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles provided fleet support for the STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® World Championship held in the UK for the very first time this weekend at the Liverpool Echo Arena.
STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® is an international extreme sports competition, inspired by the logging industry, which sees the world’s best athletes chopping and sawing wood at speed using razor sharp axes and saws.
This weekend competitors from 21 nations headed to Liverpool to compete at six thrilling disciplines, three using an axe and three using saws. Friday’s event saw 21 nations compete in the Team Relay Event, with the Australian team walking away winners. On Saturday the 12 top athletes took to the stage for the individual event, with the coveted individual title taken home by Laurence O’Toole of Team Australia.
Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, a headline sponsor of STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® since 2015, will lend its support until 2020, providing a pair of Amaroks, a Crafter and a fleet of Caravelles to support the event, dubbed the original extreme sport.
The Caravelle, with its comfortable and versatile seating and state-of-the-art infotainment system, was used to transport competitors and VIPs from the airport to the event. Volkswagen Amarok, the perfect companion for any wood-chopping athlete thanks to its 1,154kg payload, was on display outside the Echo Arena, while the all-new 2018 Crafter was used to move huge wooden sculptures of the competitors to Liverpool.
