In October 275,400 passenger cars were newly registered in Germany, which is 4 per cent up on the same month last year. Since the beginning of this year, new passenger car registrations have climbed by 3 per cent to reach almost 2.6 million units. Incoming orders from Germany increased by around 1 per cent in October – a somewhat weaker result than that for the year to date (+4 per cent).
Exports from German plants showed modest growth last month. The total came to 364,200 exported passenger cars, 3 per cent more than in October last year. Since January exports have exceeded 3.6 million vehicles, which is a rise of 4 per cent.
The healthy trend in orders from abroad (+13 per cent in October 2014) suggests that exports could continue to expand slightly during the remainder of this year. Matthias Wissmann, President of the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA), stressed, “The markets in the USA and China are still dynamic. This also benefits the industry in Germany. However, the sluggish economic situation in Brazil and Russia is holding back growth of the global passenger car market. Western Europe is indeed on the expected course, but recovery is still proving difficult in some European countries. There is room for more expansion.”
The passenger car manufacturers pushed up their assembly in Germany by 4 per cent to 473,800 units in October. This year so far, over 4.7 million new cars have been produced in this country (+4 per cent).
