Vattenfall Network Solutions has designated a large investment to support the UK transport sectors switch to electric vehicles. Having already invested over £3.5bn in UK renewable energy generation Vattenfall is now also focused on supporting the UK’s transition to electrified transport.
Bus operators, fleet operators and logistics businesses looking to switch to all electric fleets are being offered a fully managed service to help reduce the carbon impacts of their operations.
The EV infrastructure projects will be delivered under Vattenfall’s Power-as-a-Service model via which Vattenfall design, build, own and operate complete EV charging facilities on behalf of the client.
Power-as-a-Service covers the full costs of new or upgraded grid connections to support the additional power requirements of EV charging, new high voltage electrical infrastructure or upgrades to existing networks, and the EV charge points themselves. As technology agnostic experts Vattenfall are not tied to any specific charging technology and can tailor solutions to the clients’ specific needs. The Network Solutions team will also manage the complete process of setting up and running the EV charging infrastructure.
This new model provides an attractive alternative for fleet owners and operators who lack the knowledge or expertise, or do not want the burden of setting up their own EV charging solutions. Under Power-as-a-Service Vattenfall also shoulder the electrical, environmental and legislative risks by providing agreed service levels, fixed costs and managing all compliance and regulatory issues over fixed term contracts, of up to 10 years.
Vattenfall even guarantee the charging infrastructure will function as expected, which is a service that is not available if the client owns the charging setup themselves and procures management of the infrastructure from an operation and maintenance company. If, for example a charger or a transformer were to break down Vattenfall would cover the full costs of mending or replacing whatever is required, even if it happens after 9 years of a 10-year contract.
For companies who require new or upgraded grid connections, independent distribution network operator, Vattenfall IDNO, compliments Vattenfall Network Solutions by providing grid connections to support electric vehicle charging. Unlike Distribution Network Operators (DNOs), Vattenfall IDNO can provide Asset Adoption Value Payments, to help cover the additional costs of establishing electric vehicle charging.
Maria Lindberg, Director of Heavy Transport at Vattenfall Network Solutions, said:
“At Vattenfall, we want to help businesses make the switch to all electric vehicle fleets and reduce the carbon emissions from their operations. That’s why we’re investing in charging infrastructure. Our goal is to enable fossil-fuel free living in one generation. Businesses need simple, risk-free, cost-effective solutions, which is why we have developed the Power-as-a-Service model.
