Automotive PR Veteran Joins as TrueCar Deepens Industry Ties and Revamps Mobile Platform Strategy

TrueCar, Inc. (NASDAQ: TRUE), the negotiation free car buying and selling platform, is adding early Schaffner as Senior Corporate Communications Manager in a move to further strengthen its in-house communications department.

Schaffner, who joins TrueCar from Toyota Motor Corp.’s U.S. unit, is a seasoned communications professional and will be integral to telling TrueCar’s story as its operations and business expand and network of more than 9,000 TrueCar Certified Dealers grows. Her work with Toyota, and previously with Thomson Reuters and the Financial Times, will be particularly valuable as TrueCar builds closer relationships with carmakers and dealers and evolves its mobile platform.

“TrueCar is at the start of a new phase as a public company and a robust in-house communications function is imperative for a consistent flow of information to stakeholders, customers and the news media,” Schaffner said. “A common thread throughout my career has been amplifying the business story for different organizations, and TrueCar has a strong story to tell. I’m excited to apply my experience as TrueCar begins to closer align with automakers, a critical next phase for the company.”

In her newly created role Schaffner will report to Alan Ohnsman, TrueCar’s Senior Vice President and Chief Communications Officer. Ohnsman, a longtime automotive correspondent, joined last month after 15 years with Bloomberg News.

“Carly takes an exceptionally efficient and smart approach to communications work, and I’m thrilled she agreed to join the TrueCar team,” Ohnsman said. “Her combination of media, agency and automotive experience are ideal and will complement TrueCar’s growth as a technology-driven company serving consumers, dealers and automakers.”

Schaffner, business communications manager for Toyota Motor Sales USA, joined the sales unit of the world’s largest automaker in 2010 from Saatchi & Saatchi LA. She received a Masters

degree in public relations and corporate communications from New York University and has an undergraduate degree in journalism from the University of Arizona.
