The 2016 Subaru WRX is available with a front crash prevention system that earns a superior rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, boosting the small car from a TOP SAFETY PICK to a TOP SAFETY PICK+.

The addition of the optional EyeSight system is the only significant change to the WRX, which had been redesigned last year. Like the 2015 model, the 2016 WRX has good ratings in all five of the Institute’s crashworthiness tests — small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraints.

The EyeSight-equipped WRX avoided collisions in track tests at 12 mph and 25 mph. The system also includes a forward collision warning function that meets criteria set by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The vehicle earns the maximum 6 points for a superior front crash prevention rating.

To qualify for TOP SAFETY PICK, vehicles must earn good ratings in the moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraint tests, plus a good or acceptable rating in the small overlap test. For TOP SAFETY PICK+, vehicles also need an available front crash system with an advanced or superior rating.
