Today Mitsubishi Pajero Sport frame production was launched at the Nizhny Novgorod site of GAZ Group. The project is implemented under agreement between OJSC GAZ and PCMA Rus (PCMA Rus, joint venture between PSA Peugeot Citroen and Mitsubishi Motors Corporation), under which OJSC GAZ welds frames for the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, applies the protective anticorrosive coat (phosphating and electrophoresis treatment) and supplies frames to the conveyor of PCMA Rus assembly plant in  Kaluga.

Frames are produced in strict compliance with PCMA Rus standards. In order to implement the project, OJSC GAZ established and equipped a welding area (purchasing a semi-automotive welding machine and air cleaners and installing equipment for frame transportation along the welding jigs), put into operation a phosphating treatment line and modernized the current electrophoresis treatment line. Welding jigs and checkout equipment is provided by Mitsubishi Motors Corporation. The workers completed training in compliance with PCMA Rus quality standards; 85 additional jobs were created for the project at OJSC GAZ.

Bo Inge Andersson, President of GAZ Group said: “Launch of the frame production for the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport at the Nizhny Novogorod site of GAZ Group speaks of the high level of competence at OJSC GAZ in automotive component production and is a milestone in automotive cluster development in the Nizhny Novogorod Region. We won the nomination in December 2012 due to our significant experience in manufacturing of similar products, availability of equipment for excellent order fulfillment and trained workers. We will continue developing the automotive component business and strengthen our competences in order to develop the GAZ Group model range and localised automotive component production in Russia”.

Yoshiya Inamori, Deputy General Manager of PCMA Rus said: “The Pajero Sport is the second, after the Outlander, model of Mitsubishi SUVs produced in Russia. It is crucially important for us to find reliable Russian partners to localize our production of key components. We are satisfied with our work on localization performed together with GAZ Group, with competitive quotations and promptness of project implementation. We are sure of the market success of our product, the Pajero Sport, because the quality of the vehicles being assembled in Russia is equal to our global requirements for the product manufacturing process.
