Power management company Eaton today celebrated the second phase of its previously announced expansion project at its vehicle facility in Jining, China. The project, which will double manufacturing capacity to meet the growing customer demand in China for engine valves and valvetrain products, began this past July and is expected to be completed and fully operational in March 2014. The ceremony, which was held at the plant in the Shandong Province, was attended by government officials, local partners and employees.

“The Jining expansion project will significantly scale our manufacturing and processing capabilities in the region in support of the growing demand for high-quality sustainable products,” said Erbing Shang, president, Asia Pacific for Eaton’s Vehicle Group. “With this additional capacity, Eaton is well positioned to support the growth within China’s automotive and commercial vehicle markets.”

The Jining facility produces valves, hollow valves, modular lash adjusters, roller rocker arms, pump actuators and other valve and value actuation systems and devices for passenger cars, light and commercial vehicles and medium- and heavy-duty trucks.

Eaton has steadily expanded its footprint in China for the vehicle market since 1998 when it opened its first manufacturing facility in Shanghai. Today, Eaton operates four manufacturing facilities, an engineering lab, and a research and development center to serve local and global customers in the vehicle business including Shanghai General Motors, Volkswagen, Dongfeng, Great Wall, Hyundai, Chery. In addition to its expansion of the Jining manufacturing facility, Eaton is undertaking joint technology programs with leading local universities in China – Shanghai Jiao Tong University and South China University of Technology. Since 2008, Eaton’s has worked in collaboration with these academic institutions on engineering and innovation projects to solve technical problems and help develop local engineering talent.
