VW-Navistar deal revives IPO speculation

Does the new alliance with Navistar improve the likelihood of a VW Truck & Bus spinoff? Many think so, writes Megan Lampinen

The new partnership announced between Navistar and Volkswagen Truck & Bus has revived speculation in the analyst community that a spinoff of VW's truck operations could be in the offing.

The VW Truck & Bus holding company already incorporates the Volkswagen Caminhões e Onibus, Scania and MAN brands and has lofty ambitions of creating a global CV powerhouse. It is now taking a 16.6% stake in Navistar, which VW Truck & Bus Chief Executive Andreas Renschler described as "a starting point."
