The European Commission (EC) is launching a probe into Germany's international trade surplus within the framework of the EU’s Macroeconomic Imbalances Procedure, specifically looking at whether its high exports are slowing economic recovery across Europe. Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso said the investigation will seek to discover if the country can take any action to rebalance Europe's economy.
